Introduction

MG has recently launched the MG Windsor EV, a new electric vehicle specifically designed for the Indian market. Although it shares its design with the Baojun Cloud from China, the MG Windsor EV offers an affordable option for those looking to switch to electric vehicles.

Pricing and Battery-as-a-Service

The MG Windsor EV starts at Rs 9.99 lakh ($11,895), but the battery pack is not included in this price. Instead, MG offers a Battery-as-a-Service program, where owners pay an additional fee of Rs 3.5 ($0.04) per km driven. This program includes unlimited-km lifetime warranty for the battery pack and free charging for the first year.

Specifications

The MG Windsor EV is equipped with a 38 kWh battery, providing an estimated range of up to 331 km (206 miles). It features a single electric motor at the front axle, generating 134 hp (100 kW / 136 PS) and 200 Nm (147.5 lb-ft) of torque. The EV has a maximum charging rate of 45 kW, allowing it to reach 0-80 percent charge in just 55 minutes.

Styling and Features

The MG Windsor EV closely resembles the Baojun Cloud, but with some unique design elements. It features black trim pieces on the front bumper, full-width LED headlights, and the short hood. The wheel arches and doors also have black trim pieces, while roof rails give it a crossover-like appearance. The EV is available in four colors and comes with 17- or 18-inch wheels.

Inside, the MG Windsor EV shares its interior with its Chinese sibling. It includes a 15.6-inch infotainment system (10.1 inch in the base model) and an 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster. The Indian-spec model has physical controls for the A/C unit, enhancing usability. The EV offers comfortable “aero lounge seats” with rear seatbacks that can recline up to 135 degrees. The flagship trim comes with additional features such as ventilated front seats, a panoramic glass roof, a 9-speaker audio system, ambient lighting, wireless charging, and a 360-degree camera. Safety features include six airbags and disc brakes.

Availability

The MG Windsor EV will be available for order in India starting October 3, with the first deliveries expected on October 12.
