“Mini Cooper 5-door hatchback with petrol engine makes a comeback”

Mini Cooper 5-Door Hatch Returns with Petrol Power

New Design for Mini’s Golf Rival

Mini has introduced the five-door version of the new Cooper hatchback, marking the final combustion-only car from the brand. This model offers a stretched design compared to the three-door Cooper, providing a more traditional five-seat layout with a rear bench.

Enhanced Dimensions

With an overall length of 4036mm, the five-door Cooper is 160mm longer than the three-door version and 31mm longer than its predecessor. This results in additional rear legroom and a larger boot space of 275 litres.

Powerful Engine Options

The new Cooper is available in two petrol versions. The entry-level Cooper C features a turbocharged 1.5-litre three-cylinder engine producing 152bhp and 170lb ft of torque. The Cooper S is equipped with a 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine delivering 201bhp and 221lb ft of torque.

Automatic Gearbox

The new Cooper comes exclusively with an automatic gearbox, as Mini has discontinued the manual option. Unlike the three-door model, the five-door Cooper will not offer a battery-electric powertrain.

Pricing and Competition

The starting price for the new five-door Cooper is £24,050, making it competitive against larger family hatchbacks like the Hyundai i30, Mazda 3, and Seat Leon. The Cooper S starts at £28,450, positioning it as an alternative to models like the Volkswagen Polo GTI.

Production and Future Plans

The five-door Cooper will be manufactured alongside the petrol three-door version at Mini’s Oxford plant. The brand is gearing up for the production of electric models like the Cooper and Aceman in 2026. The upcoming Mini Convertible will also be built at the Oxford facility.

The five-door Cooper marks the final unveiling by outgoing Mini CEO Stefanie Wurst, who will be succeeded by Stefan Richmann from BMW’s corporate strategy division.
