Introduction

Morgan, the renowned British sports car company, has partnered with Italian design house Pininfarina to develop a special coachbuilt model. This exclusive roadster is expected to be launched in late 2022 and will be produced in limited quantities at Morgan’s traditional Malvern Link factory.

Distinctive Design

Pininfarina will take the lead in designing this unique vehicle, which is described as “a limited run of individual commissions.” While the specific details are yet to be announced, the roadster will feature the classic front-engined, rear-wheel-drive, BMW-based mechanical package found in Morgan’s Plus Four and Plus Six models. The collaboration aims to create a distinct silhouette that combines Pininfarina’s design expertise with Morgan’s iconic style.

Celebrating Coachbuilding Expertise

The collaboration between Morgan and Pininfarina is seen as a celebration of their rich histories in coachbuilding. With over two centuries of combined experience, the partners aim to showcase their expertise through this special project. The car will not only expand Morgan’s model range but also demonstrate the versatility of the firm’s extruded-aluminium monocoque chassis, previously used in the Dakar Rally-inspired Plus Four off-roader.

Production and Name

While the exact production numbers have not been disclosed, the previous use of the extruded-aluminium monocoque chassis for the CXT suggests that the Pininfarina-Morgan roadster will be produced in limited quantities. The name for this coachbuilt car has not yet been revealed, but it is expected to have distinctive lines that reflect Pininfarina’s design influence.

A Landmark Collaboration

This collaboration marks the first time in Morgan’s 114-year history that the company has worked with an external design house. The decision to partner with Pininfarina aligns with Morgan’s vision to push its design style forward into the “jet age.” The appointment of CEO Massimo Fumarola, who has previous experience with renowned Italian manufacturers Lamborghini and Ferrari, further strengthens the collaboration.

“Coachbuilding isn’t constrained by trends or borders,” said Fumarola. “We’re discovering through this collaboration. The shared passion between Morgan and Pininfarina is clear, and we look forward to sharing much more with our community in due course.”
