A Rivalry with BMW
Mercedes-Benz built the 190E Evolution as a rival to the BMW M3 Sport Evolution and in 1990, launched the ever more extreme Evolution II. The car is adorned with panels so aggressive and over-the-top that we’re sure the German marque would never approve of a current C-Class or E-Class being modified in such a way.
Visual and Aerodynamic Upgrades
Key visual and aerodynamic upgrades made to the car include an adjustable rear wing, a spoiler on the rear window, flared wheel arches, distinctive bumpers, and a large front splitter. This particular example is number 84 of the 502 units produced and is painted in Blue Black Metallic while sitting on the original 17-inch Evo II alloy wheels now wrapped in Toyo Proxes R1R tires.
Found beneath the hood of the 190E 2.5-16 Evolution II is a 2.5-liter four-cylinder created by Cosworth and the AMG PowerPack that includes a unique throttle body, air intake, camshafts, ECU, and exhaust. When new, the car delivered 232 hp which is sent to the rear wheels courtesy of a Getrag five-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential.
There’s even more to love about the Evolution II. For example, it left the factory with self-leveling suspension, beefed-up brakes with ABS, and sports seats clad in black leather with a heating function.
