New Battery Boosts Electric Mercedes G-Class Range to 400 Miles

Mercedes G580 EQ to Get Range Boost with Upgraded Battery

Mercedes recently unveiled the new G580 EQ at the Beijing Auto Show, showcasing an electric version of the iconic G-class SUV. While the initial range of the G580 EQ was reported to be around 292 miles, a new upgrade is in the works to boost its range significantly.

Upgraded Battery for Improved Range

According to a recent report, Mercedes engineers are working on a new battery upgrade that will increase the G580 EQ’s range from 292 to 400 miles. The new power pack is expected to provide 20-40 percent more energy density compared to the current 116 kWh battery.

New Battery Technology

The new battery technology is set to be available from 2026 and will revolutionize the driving range of the G580 EQ. With the increased energy density, the G580 EQ could potentially reach up to 400 miles on a single charge, making it a more viable option for electric SUV enthusiasts.

Game-Changing Technology

Mercedes’ chief technology officer, Markus Schäfer, expressed excitement about the new battery technology, stating that it will open up new possibilities for future electric vehicles. The same technology is expected to be integrated into other Mercedes EVs, including the facelifted EQS.

Quad-Motor Powertrain

The G580 EQ is equipped with a quad-motor drivetrain that delivers an impressive 579 hp and 859 lb-ft of torque. This powertrain allows the SUV to accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in just 4.7 seconds, despite its hefty curb weight of 3,085 kg.

With the upcoming battery upgrade, the Mercedes G580 EQ is poised to become a more competitive player in the electric SUV market, offering both performance and an extended driving range.
