New Dacia Duster 2024: A Technological Revolution and Electrified Powertrains

Introduction

The new Dacia Duster for 2024 has undergone a technical revolution, making it the “best bargain on the market” with the introduction of electrified powertrains. This third-generation Duster moves onto the CMF-B platform, which is also used by the Renault Clio and Nissan Juke, bringing significant technological upgrades.

Platform Upgrade

The previous B0 platform has been replaced by the CMF-B architecture, benefiting the Duster in terms of practicality, refinement, and dynamics without compromising its compact size. This upgrade also allows for the introduction of hybrid and mild-hybrid powertrains alongside a pure-petrol option.

Powertrain Options

The entry-level 88bhp three-cylinder turbo petrol engine has been dropped, and the line-up now starts with the 99bhp four-cylinder engine. This engine can run on both petrol and LPG, with separate 50-litre tanks for each. According to official tests, the Duster can travel around 800 miles without refueling when both tanks are full.

The mild-hybrid powertrain includes a 1.2-litre turbo petrol triple, a 48V electric motor, and a 0.9kWh battery. This powertrain is available with a four-wheel drive system, offering improved traction. The Duster also features an Off-Road setting that actively distributes torque between the front and rear axles, along with hill descent control.

Styling and Design

The new Duster showcases the most significant styling change since its introduction, taking inspiration from the 2021 Bigster concept. It features wide haunches and Y-shaped lighting signatures, giving it a more modern and aggressive look. The Duster’s underbody, wheel-arch, and bumper claddings are made from a hardwearing plastic called Starkle, which incorporates up to 20% recycled material.

Interior and Technology

The Duster’s interior focuses on durability, featuring a color-contrasting dashboard panel and a chunky steering wheel with physical buttons. The car’s software can be updated over the air, eliminating the need for dealership visits for bug fixes and new functions. The boot space has also increased to 472 liters, surpassing competitors like the Ford Puma and Skoda Kamiq.

Youclip Accessory System

Dacia is introducing a new accessory system called Youclip with the Duster. It includes square-shaped mounts throughout the car capable of holding various accessories such as a tablet stand, cupholder, bag hook, induction-charging phone holder, and portable torch. Dacia expects owners to start 3D-printing their own accessories using the Youclip system.

Pricing and Availability

Pricing for the new Duster has not been announced yet, but it is expected to start below £20,000 in the UK. CEO Denis Le Vot has promised that it will be priced at less than €20,000 (£17,500) in Europe. The new Duster represents a slight premium over the current model, which starts at £17,295.

Overall, the new Dacia Duster 2024 offers significant technological upgrades, electrified powertrain options, improved styling, and practicality. It is set to be a strong contender in the compact SUV market.
