New Ferrari Hypercar Successor to LaFerrari Coming in 2022

Ferrari is set to launch its first hypercar in a decade, the F250, which will feature a hybrid V6 engine and aero-optimised bodywork. The F250 will succeed the LaFerrari, which was launched in 2011 and featured a mild-hybrid V12 engine. The F250 has been spotted testing in heavy camouflage on public roads in Italy, and is expected to cost upwards of £2 million.

Limited Production and Release Dates

The F250 is expected to be produced in limited numbers, similar to its predecessor, with only 500 units of the LaFerrari being made. Leaked documents suggest that the F250 could launch in October 2022, followed by a track-focussed XX variant in 2026, and a spider variant in 2027.

Aero-Optimised Bodywork

The F250 features an aerodynamically sculpted body with a heavily scooped front bumper, recessed bonnet, and a substantial rear spoiler that runs the width of the car’s rear. The car also uses wheels fitted with five nuts, reshaped front and rear LEDs reminiscent of those on the Ferrari 296 GTB, twin exhaust outlets, and six visible cooling ducts to feed the mid-mounted engine.

Hybrid V6 Engine

Details of the F250’s powertrain remain scarce, but it is expected to be powered by an evolution of the 3.0-litre mild-hybrid V6 engine found in the Ferrari 296 GTB. This would mark the first time that a V12 engine has not been used in a range-topping Ferrari. The 296 GTB features a twin-turbocharged six-pot engine that develops a total of 1338bhp – 1016bhp from the engine alone and an additional 322bhp from three electric motors, one on the rear axle and one on each of the front wheels. It also produced 664lb ft at 5500rpm.

Ferrari’s Vision Gran Turismo Concept

Ferrari’s Vision Gran Turismo concept, which was revealed in November 2021 to preview the firm’s future sports car design, used a “more extreme” version of the 296’s twin-turbocharged six-pot engine. This could provide pointers to the form that the F250’s powertrain could take.

Interior Features

Spy pictures of the F250’s interior show a familiar setting, including what appears to be a dashboard-mounted touchscreen and a squared-off steering wheel like that of the LaFerrari.

Conclusion

The F250 will be Ferrari’s first hypercar in a decade and will feature a hybrid V6 engine and aero-optimised bodywork. The car is expected to be produced in limited numbers and could launch in October 2022. Spy pictures of the F250 show an aerodynamically sculpted body with a heavily scooped front bumper, recessed bonnet, and a substantial rear spoiler that runs the width of the car’s rear. The car is likely to be powered by an evolution of the 3.0-litre mild-hybrid V6 engine found in the Ferrari 296 GTB, marking the first time that a V12 engine has not been used in a range-topping Ferrari.
