Porsche 992.2 GT3 RS: First Look at the Facelifted Track Weapon

Introduction

When Porsche unveiled the facelifted 992.2 version of the 911 earlier this year, it left us wanting more. While the GTS Hybrid and base Carrera were the only new models introduced, there are still exciting releases to look forward to in the coming years. One of these is the GT3 RS, which has been spotted by our spy photographers for the first time.

Facelifted Design

The prototype of the GT3 RS showcases its distinctive features, including the saw-tooth front fender vents, hood vents, unique door design, and a towering rear wing. However, since it is an early prototype, it still retains the current car’s front bumper, which will likely be replaced with a fresher design offering enhanced downforce before its official debut.

Upgrades and Features

The GT3 RS will feature an illuminated rear “Porsche” script, similar to the new 911 GTS and Carrera. The prototype hides the script under a disguise panel, preventing a clear view of the new lower bumper design. Inside, carbon bucket seats, fabric door pulls, and a fully digital instrument cluster, which made its debut in the new Carrera and GTS, will be included.

Powertrain Speculations

There is speculation about whether the GT3 RS will adopt the GT3’s hybrid technology to increase power without resorting to turbocharging. The current GT3 RS generates 518 hp from its naturally aspirated 4.0-liter flat-six engine, while the turbocharged GTS hybrid produces 536 hp, with 54 hp coming from its electric motor. However, the GT2 RS, which is expected to be replaced by a hybrid model, will likely exceed 700 hp with the assistance of hybrid technology.

Release Date

It is unlikely that the final production car will be seen before 2026, considering Porsche’s previous timelines. The 2025 model year GT3 RS is essentially a carryover of the 2024 model. Before the 992.2-spec replacement arrives, Porsche needs to introduce the new regular GT3, which is already off the market. This suggests that the new GT3 RS may arrive in the United States as a 2027 model year car.

Conclusion

The facelifted Porsche 992.2 GT3 RS promises to be an exciting track weapon with its updated design and potential hybrid powertrain. Car enthusiasts can look forward to experiencing the thrill of this high-performance vehicle in the coming years.
