Renault is gearing up for the highly anticipated debut of the revamped Renault 4 at the upcoming **Paris Motor Show**. This new model promises to be a versatile counterpart to the recently unveiled **Renault 5 electric hatchback**.

## Testing Phase Unveils Boxy Design

Recent sightings of two prototype models on public roads have provided a glimpse into the production version of the Renault 4. Despite being heavily camouflaged, the distinctive boxy silhouette and design elements from the **4Ever concept** showcased at the last Paris show are evident. The prototypes feature round LED daytime running lights at the front and compact, column-like brake lights at the rear.

## Diverse Lineup: Hatchback and Crossover Variants

The spotted prototypes appear to represent the range of the Renault 4 lineup. One model is a basic hatchback equipped with steel wheels, while the other is a more rugged crossover variant, complete with alloy wheels, roof rails, and eye-catching U-shaped body cladding. This more aggressive version may be a special edition inspired by the 4Ever concept, which draws inspiration from modified Renault 4s that participate in the annual **4L Trophy rally**.

## Shared Platform and Powertrain Options

The new Renault 4 will utilize the **Ampr Small EV platform**, the same foundation that supports the recently launched Renault 5. Both electric vehicles will share a wheelbase of 2.54 meters. The Renault 4 is expected to offer three front-wheel-drive powertrains with outputs of 94bhp, 121bhp, and 148bhp, along with battery options of 40kWh and 52kWh.

Interestingly, the Ampr Small platform’s multi-link rear axle is designed to accommodate a second motor, hinting at the potential for a four-wheel-drive variant of the Renault 4 in the future.

## A Unique Driving Experience

Vittorio d’Arienzo, chief engineer for Renault Group’s small EVs, has indicated that the Renault 4 will be tuned to provide a distinct driving experience compared to the Renault 5. While it may exhibit slightly more body roll, the focus will be on delivering a more comfortable ride. However, the quirky “funny French” wheel travel characteristic of the original Renault 4 will not be replicated.

## Interior Features and Design

Images from earlier prototypes suggest that the Renault 4 will feature a dual-screen infotainment system similar to that of the Renault 5. However, it is expected to have a unique dashboard design that pays homage to its predecessor.

## Production Timeline and Future Plans

Production of the Renault 4 is slated to commence in the summer of next year, following the initiation of customer deliveries for the Renault 5. Looking ahead, Renault is also working on its next retro revival, the new **Twingo**, which is set to be an affordable electric vehicle priced under £17,000 and expected to launch in 2026.
