“Nio CEO Achieves 650-Mile Range on Single Charge with ET7 | Giga Gears”

Nio CEO Drives All-Electric ET7 for 650 Miles on a Single Charge

The chief executive of Nio, William Li, recently completed an impressive feat with the all-electric ET7. He drove the vehicle for a distance of 650 miles (1,044 km) on a single charge, showcasing the capabilities of its semi-solid state 150 kWh battery pack.

Long-Distance Journey

Li embarked on this journey alongside Nio Power’s director, Shen Fei, and a Tencent reporter. The trip began at a battery swap station in Shanghai and lasted for 14 hours, including 12.4 hours of driving. They concluded their journey near Xiamen at the Longjudong Service Area, with the ET7 still having 3 percent of its range remaining.

According to Car News China, the ET7 primarily relied on Nio’s Navigate-on-Pilot+ semi-autonomous driving system, which limited the vehicle’s speed to 90 km/h (56 mph) for 92% of the journey. The ET7 achieved an average energy consumption of just 13.2 kWh/100 km and maintained an average speed of 83.9 km/h (52 mph). The test took place in cool weather conditions, with temperatures ranging between -2°C and 12°C (28°F – 54°F).

Semi-Solid State Battery

The ET7 is equipped with a cutting-edge semi-solid state battery developed and manufactured by WeLion New Energy Technology. This battery offers a single-cell energy density of 360 Wh/kg or 260 Wh/kg over the entire pack. Despite its higher energy capacity, the battery maintains the same dimensions as Nio’s current 100 kWh pack and only adds an extra weight of 20 kg (44 lbs).

Future Prospects

Nio has not yet commenced customer deliveries of the ET7 models featuring the 150 kWh battery pack, and pricing details have not been confirmed. However, Nio’s president, Qin Lihong, has suggested that the battery pack alone will cost approximately the same as an ET5 sedan, which is around 300,000 yuan (~$42,000).

In a Weibo post following the successful journey, Li expressed his satisfaction with the performance of the 150 kWh ultra-long endurance battery pack and highlighted that all existing Nio models can be upgraded to this battery through the Nio battery swap system.
