Nio Onvo L60 Crossover Undercuts Tesla Model Y Price | Giga Gears

The Onvo L60: A New Competitor for Tesla

Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer Nio has introduced its new value-oriented subbrand, Onvo, with the unveiling of the Onvo L60. This model is set to rival Tesla’s Model Y, offering a more affordable option that is also more energy-efficient.

Features of the Onvo L60

  • The Onvo L60 is priced approximately $4,000 less than the Tesla Model Y.
  • Pre-orders for the L60 have opened in China, with deliveries starting in the third quarter of the year.
  • The L60 boasts a remarkable drag coefficient of 0.229, allowing for greater energy efficiency.
  • Onvo claims that the L60 consumes just 12.1 kWh of electricity per 100 km, compared to Tesla’s 12.5 kWh over the same distance.

Efficiency and Range

The Onvo L60’s efficiency is further highlighted by its ability to travel over 621 miles per charge on the CLTC cycle. While Tesla’s longest-range model offers 688 miles on the same cycle, the L60’s energy efficiency and affordability make it a compelling option for eco-conscious consumers.

Battery Technology and Charging

Onvo’s vehicles feature battery swapping technology, allowing drivers to get back on the road in as little as three minutes. Additionally, the L60’s 900V architecture enables quick recharging, ensuring minimal downtime for drivers.

Interior and Global Expansion

While details about the L60’s interior have not been officially released, reports suggest it will feature a large infotainment screen, a heads-up display, and advanced driver assistance systems borrowed from Nio. The vehicle’s innovative storage design allows each occupant to bring their own luggage.

Following its launch in China, Onvo plans to export the L60 to global markets, including Europe, in late 2024.
