Introduction

As the electric vehicle (EV) era continues to evolve, it’s worth exploring whether an EV can still be appealing without extravagant features. This is where the Peugeot e-308 comes in. Unlike many EVs on the market, the e-308 focuses on being a normal, everyday car rather than a flashy, attention-grabbing vehicle.

Life with a Peugeot e-308: Month 1

Welcoming the e-308 to the Fleet

In a market filled with bold and extravagant EVs, the Peugeot e-308 stands out for its simplicity. It is a conventional estate car, which is quite rare in the EV category. With a modest 154bhp power output, it may not impress those seeking high-performance EVs, but it offers a practical and efficient option for families. The e-308 has a 54kWh battery pack, providing a claimed range of approximately 250 miles. Its acceleration from 0-62mph in 9.9 seconds and top speed of 106mph are respectable but not groundbreaking. What sets the e-308 apart is its normality.

While the e-308 embraces normality, it doesn’t compromise on style. The SW version of the car, in particular, boasts an attractive design with well-proportioned bodywork, muscular wheel arches, and sleek details. Peugeot’s distinct family look is showcased beautifully in this model, especially when finished in the elegant Selenium Grey color. Among the Stellantis brands, Peugeot stands out for its clear and appealing identity.

Inside, the e-308 continues to impress with its modern and stylish design. The brushed-metal band that wraps around the top of the dashboard adds a touch of sophistication, while the intuitive touch-sensitive shortcuts beneath the infotainment screen enhance convenience. The controversial i-Cockpit setup may take some getting used to, but with time, finding the right seating position becomes easier.

While the e-308 offers a comfortable and enjoyable driving experience, it falls short in terms of rear legroom. This makes it less suitable for carrying four adults for extended periods. However, the car makes up for it with a spacious boot, offering 548 liters of storage space. Overall, the e-308 provides a practical solution for families.

For this long-term test, the GT trim level was chosen, along with several additional options. The 360deg Vision and Drive Assist Plus Pack plus Smart Electric Pack enhance safety and convenience, while the wireless smartphone charger and Driver and Passenger Seat Pack add luxury and comfort. With the GT trim’s extensive standard features, the e-308 leaves little to be desired.

As for its electric powertrain, the e-308 delivers a conventional and smooth driving experience. The instant torque of 199lb ft combined with a single-speed transmission provides a linear and responsive acceleration. In real-world conditions, the e-308 offers a realistic range of around 200 miles. Fast charging at 100kW allows the battery to reach 20-80% capacity in just half an hour. The car’s stiff suspension ensures stability, although it can result in a firm ride at times.

Overall, the Peugeot e-308 proves that a normal and practical EV can be just as appealing as its more extravagant counterparts. Its simplicity, combined with stylish design and efficient performance, make it an excellent choice for those seeking an everyday electric car.

Second Opinion

“The e-308 is a good car. It’s comfortable, well-sized, and, unlike the smaller e-208, it gets the seating position for the i-Cockpit spot on. I’ll be following Al’s reports closely to see if he shares the same experience after an extended period with the car.”
