Introduction

The highly anticipated Polestar 3, the first SUV from the Swedish brand, is set to launch in the second quarter of next year. This luxury sports SUV boasts a sleek design, advanced technology, and a commitment to sustainability.

Power and Performance

The Polestar 3 offers an impressive 510bhp in its twin-motor configuration. It also comes equipped with advanced safety features and utilizes sustainable materials, making it a more responsible choice for eco-conscious consumers.

Design and Features

The Polestar 3 made its UK debut at Salon Privé, showcasing its elegant design with ‘Snow’ white paintwork and 22-inch four-spoke forged alloys. It is positioned as a direct competitor to the BMW iX and Jaguar I-Pace, and is the second series-production model from the Volvo spin-off brand.

Based on the advanced SPA2 platform, the Polestar 3 shares technology and systems with the upcoming Volvo EX90. However, unlike its predecessors, the Polestar 3 was designed from the ground up as a Polestar vehicle.

Its aerodynamic efficiency is evident in its sleek silhouette and various aero-channeling additions. The design features, such as dual-blade headlights and a rear spoiler with a built-in wing, were first seen on the Polestar Precept concept and will become defining characteristics of the brand.

Advanced Technology

The Polestar 3 is equipped with a rear-biased dual-motor powertrain, providing 483bhp and 618lb ft of torque in standard form. It can accelerate from 0-62mph in just 5.0 seconds and has a top speed of 130mph. An optional Performance Pack further enhances performance.

To ensure exceptional performance and precision, the Polestar 3 features dual-chamber adaptive air suspension, Brembo four-piston brakes, torque-vectoring dual-clutch function, and an adjustable one-pedal driving option.

The SUV also boasts a 111kWh lithium-ion battery with a range of up to 379 miles and a peak charging rate of 250kW. It supports bidirectional vehicle-to-grid charging and comes with a heat pump as standard.

The Polestar 3 incorporates cutting-edge infotainment and safety technology, including the Nvidia Drive core computer, five radar modules, five external cameras, and 12 external ultrasonic sensors. An optional Pilot Pack with lidar offers enhanced 3D-scanning capabilities.

Sustainable Interior

Polestar prioritizes sustainability in the interior design of the 3. The materials used include animal-welfare-certified leather and fully traceable wool upholstery. The company is committed to reducing its carbon footprint and will provide a complete life-cycle assessment of the vehicle’s CO2 emissions.

Infotainment and Pricing

The Polestar 3 features a 14.5-inch central touchscreen powered by the Snapdragon Cockpit Platform. It runs on an Android-based operating system developed in collaboration with Google, allowing for over-the-air updates.

All models of the Polestar 3 come with 21-inch alloy wheels, a panoramic glass roof, LED lighting, and retractable door handles. The Plus Pack and Pilot Pack, including features like a 25-speaker audio system and parking assistance, are included in the first year of production.

The Polestar 3 is available for order now, with prices starting at £79,900. The Performance Pack, which includes performance-based tweaks and unique 22-inch alloys, is available for an additional £5600.

Future Plans

The Polestar 3 will be the first Polestar model to be built at a Volvo factory in Chengdu, China. Starting from 2024, it will also be manufactured at Volvo’s factory in South Carolina, USA.

Polestar is actively exploring vehicle-to-grid functionality and has joined projects in Gothenburg, Sweden, and California to investigate its potential. These initiatives aim to develop scalable and applicable use cases for vehicle-to-grid technology.

With its combination of power, sustainability, and advanced technology, the Polestar 3 is set to make a significant impact in the luxury SUV market.
