Maximilian Missoni, the former design boss of Polestar, has joined BMW to oversee the design of Alpina models. This move comes as Alpina transitions into full BMW ownership. In addition to his role at Alpina, Missoni will also be responsible for the design of BMW’s upper mid-size and luxury-class models.

Changes in BMW’s Design Teams

BMW has made several notable changes to its design teams. Domagoj Dukec, the previous BMW design chief, has taken over as the head of Rolls-Royce. Anders Warming, on the other hand, has become the head of the Group’s global Designworks operation. These changes are part of a wider shake-up of design leadership within the BMW Group.

Missoni’s Departure from Polestar

Missoni served as Polestar’s design chief since its establishment in 2018. However, he announced his departure from the Swedish brand last month. Philipp Römers, previously Audi’s head of exterior design, has succeeded Missoni at Polestar.

Polestar’s Future and Römers’ Role

Polestar is currently expanding its lineup of luxury EVs, moving beyond its initial model, the Polestar 2. The brand aims to achieve break-even cashflow and 155,000 sales next year. Römers, with his experience in the luxury performance segment, will play a crucial role in designing the follow-up to the Polestar 2 and facelifting the existing models.

Overall, these changes in design leadership reflect BMW’s commitment to innovation and the development of cutting-edge designs for its Alpina and BMW models.
