“Porsche 718 Cayman and Boxster Discontinued in EU Over Cybersecurity Regulations”

Porsche 718 Cayman And Boxster Discontinued in EU Due to New Cybersecurity Laws

New EU Regulations Lead to the End of Porsche Macan and 718 Models

Recent cybersecurity regulations in the European Union have forced Porsche to discontinue the sale of the Porsche Macan and now the 718 Cayman and Boxster models. These new laws, set to be enforced from July 1, 2024, aim to safeguard modern vehicle electronic systems from potential cyber threats.

Transition to Battery-Electric Powertrains

Despite the discontinuation of the current 718 models, Porsche plans to introduce next-generation Cayman and Boxster models with battery-electric powertrains to comply with the new regulations. Limited production models like the Cayman GT4 RS and Boxster RS Spyder will be exempt from these rules and continue to be available.

Impact on European Market

Porsche spokesperson Oliver Hilger confirmed that the existing 718 models were developed before the new cybersecurity requirements were established, making it impossible to retrofit them to meet the standards. As a result, these models will no longer be eligible for new registration in the EU after July 1, 2024.

Future of Porsche 718 Models

While the current 718 models do not comply with the EU regulations, Hilger assured that they are not vulnerable to hacking attacks. Porsche regularly assesses the cybersecurity of its products and collaborates with the global security community to ensure their safety.

Enthusiasts in the EU can still look forward to the Cayman GT4 RS and Boxster RS Spyder models, while the regular 718 Cayman and Boxster will remain available in other regions around the world.
