Porsche is celebrating the 60th anniversary of its iconic 911 model line with a very special edition: the Porsche 911 S/T. This limited-edition vehicle, with only 1963 units available, has been hailed as one of the greatest 911s of all time by Andreas Preuninger, head of Porsche’s GT division. Even Walter Röhrl, Porsche’s brand ambassador and two-time world rally champion, claims it is the best street-legal car he has ever driven. These weight-saving measures contribute to a total weight of 1380kg, making it lighter than a manual GT3 Touring and only slightly heavier than a 911 R.

Under the hood, the Porsche 911 S/T boasts a 4.0-liter naturally aspirated flat-six engine borrowed from the 911 GT3 RS. With 518bhp, this engine delivers impressive performance. To enhance the driving experience, a lighter clutch and a single-mass flywheel were installed in the six-speed manual gearbox. The rear-steer system found in the GT3 was removed to save weight and improve engine power. Carbon-ceramic brakes and carbon-fiber anti-roll bars further contribute to the S/T’s agility.

When it comes to handling, the Porsche 911 S/T does not disappoint. The steering has been tuned to replicate the feel of a hydraulic rack, providing a steady take-up of weight and feel. The ride quality is surprisingly good, even on poor roads. Body control and composure are excellent, thanks to the two damper stiffness settings. The S/T feels incredibly urgent, with a loud engine note and precise gear shifts. Although not intended as a track car, it undoubtedly offers an exhilarating driving experience.

While the Porsche 911 S/T has received high praise, some critics have noted that modern 911s feel wider and less malleable compared to older models. However, over time, the S/T’s precision and linearity make it more approachable. Despite its width, it remains relevant and entertaining on small mountain roads.
