Porsche Confirms Continued Production of Combustion-Engined Cayenne

Porsche has announced that the upcoming fourth-generation Cayenne EV will not be the only Cayenne model in its lineup. The existing third-generation Cayenne will remain on sale, offering internal combustion engine (ICE) and hybrid powertrain options beyond 2030. Porsche plans to keep updating the twin-turbo V8 to comply with future emission regulations.

Porsche’s Commitment to Combustion-Engined Models

Porsche is dedicated to developing its powerful hybrid and combustion engine models alongside its electric vehicles. The current Cayenne will be available with three powertrain variants worldwide, including ICE, hybrid, and EV, well into the next decade.

Porsche’s Electromobility Goals

Porsche CEO Oliver Blume confirms that the fourth-generation Cayenne EV will be introduced in the mid-2020s. However, Porsche customers will still have the option to choose from a range of powerful and efficient combustion and hybrid models. Porsche aims for more than 80% of its new car sales to be fully electrified by 2030, depending on customer demand and the development of electromobility worldwide.

The Future of the Twin-Turbo V8

Porsche plans to keep the twin-turbo V8 powertrain alive by implementing extensive technical measures to improve its efficiency and meet future legislative requirements. This will allow the V8 to remain on sale for longer than initially expected.

The Upcoming Fully Electric Cayenne

Porsche is currently testing the fully electric Cayenne on public roads after an extended phase of digital development and testing. The electric SUV will be launched in 2025 and will ride on the VW Group’s Premium Platform Electric (PPE) architecture. The new Cayenne aims to deliver Porsche driving characteristics, high-capacity and stable charging, high efficiency, and a high level of comfort and everyday usability.
