Rare Midnight Purple R34 Nissan Skyline GT-R V-Spec for Sale in the US

Rare 1999 Nissan Skyline GT-R in Midnight Purple Up for Sale in the USA

The 1999 Nissan Skyline GT-R is a legend for many reasons, and one of them is its rarity. Now, a highly-desirable Midnight Purple finished model is up for sale in the USA, and it’s already registered and street-legal too.

How is it possible for a car that wasn’t sold in the USA to be legal here? Simple: it’s here under the “show and display” exception in the rules. This means that one can only drive 2,500 (4,023 km) miles each year.

Appreciating the Attributes of the R34 GT-R

That’s not much, but it should be more than enough for one to gain an appreciation for the attributes that make the R34 GT-R a legend. This particular car is almost completely stock. It features the RB26DETT inline-six engine, a six-speed manual transmission, and all-wheel drive. As a V-Spec model, it features a few unique improvements over a standard GT-R too.

This includes an active rear limited slip differential, stiffer suspension components, and aggressive aerodynamic bits. According to the listing over on Cars & Bids, that makes this one of just 242 R34 GT-R V-Spec models in Midnight Purple. The only modifications to this car from its stock condition include a new head unit, an M-Spec steering wheel, and an aftermarket rearview mirror.

Mileage and Future Exemption

Over its time on this earth, this Nissan GT-R has racked up about 95,400 miles (153,600 km). While its next owner might be forced to limit mileage to just 2,500 miles a year, there’s more good news. In 2024, this car will become 25 years old and it’ll then be exempt from the show and display clause.

Expected Price

Doug DeMuro, the head honcho over at Cars & Bids, expects the car to go for well-beyond $200,000. He recently drove and reviewed the rare Nissan sports car for his YouTube channel, and you can watch the video right below.
