Renault and Volvo Partner to Launch Revolutionary Electric Vans
The electric van market in Europe is booming, with a projected 40% annual growth until 2030. To capitalize on this opportunity, Renault and Volvo Group have teamed up with French freight company CMA CGM Group to create Flexis, a company set to revolutionize the commercial vehicle industry.
Transforming the Industry
Flexis, with 45% ownership by both Renault and Volvo Group, aims to completely transform the way vans are perceived. Renault CEO Luca de Meo likened Flexis to the “Tesla of commercial vehicles,” highlighting its innovative approach to electric vans.
Modular Design for Efficiency
The vans produced by Flexis will be assembled at Renault’s Sandouville plant in France. These vehicles will feature a highly modular design based on a fully-electric skateboard platform, allowing for purpose-built vans that enhance efficiency for delivery companies.
Enhanced Driver Experience
Flexis vans will prioritize driver experience by offering lower entry points and a pass-through to the cargo compartment for quicker access. Additionally, the software platform will streamline the onboarding process for new drivers, incorporating learning capabilities to optimize routes and charging breaks.
Global Expansion Plans
Flexis has ambitious plans for global expansion, targeting markets beyond Europe, including Brazil and North America. Renault and Volvo Group have committed to investing €300 million over the next three years to support Flexis’ growth.
Looking Towards the Future
With Flexis poised to revolutionize the commercial vehicle industry, Renault CEO de Meo envisions a future where vans are more than just transportation vehicles. The company’s innovative approach and global ambitions position it as a key player in the evolving electric van market.
