Renault Twizy 2012-2021 Review: Giga Gears

Is the Renault Twizy a Sensible or Foolish Used Buy?

The Renault Twizy, an electric quadricycle with a unique tandem seating arrangement, continues to capture the attention of many despite not being on sale for several years. While it may not be the most practical choice, there are several reasons why the Twizy is worth considering as a used vehicle.

Charging and Price

One of the key advantages of the Twizy is its quick charging time, taking only around three and a half hours via a domestic socket. Early models are also relatively inexpensive, with prices starting at around £4000. This makes it an affordable option for those looking for an electric vehicle.

Performance and Safety

Despite its small size, the Twizy offers a fun driving experience with its chassis tuned by RenaultSport. It features a steel frame, crumple zones, airbag, and four-point seatbelt for added safety. The visibility from the high seating position is excellent, making it ideal for urban driving.

Features and Options

The Twizy comes with a simple yet attractive dashboard, two gloveboxes (one lockable), and a comprehensive trip computer to keep track of range and battery capacity. While early models did not come with doors, they were later offered as an option along with zip-in windows for added comfort. The battery, which powers the rear-mounted electric motor producing 17bhp and 42lb ft of torque, had to be leased initially but was later bundled with the car from 2021.

Overall, the Renault Twizy offers a unique driving experience that many find enjoyable. With its compact size, quick charging time, and affordable price point, it is definitely worth considering as a used buy for those looking for a fun and eco-friendly urban vehicle.
