Introduction

J.D. Power has recently released their latest Automotive Performance, Execution and Layout (APEAL) study, revealing the most satisfying vehicles and brands in the market. The study shows that owner satisfaction has rebounded after two years of decline, with an average satisfaction rating of 847, up two points from the previous year.

Key Findings

  • The BMW 7-Series has been named the most satisfying new vehicle.
  • Rivian was ranked as the most satisfying brand, while Mitsubishi was ranked the worst.
  • Tesla EVs were deemed less satisfying than their rivals.

Owner Satisfaction with EVs

Interestingly, satisfaction with non-Tesla EVs is at an all-time high of 877, surpassing Tesla’s score of 870 points.

Luxury vs Mainstream Brands

Consumers showed a preference for premium brands, with luxury automakers averaging 870 points, well above the mass market average of 838. However, satisfaction with mainstream vehicles also increased by 1 point in this study.

Model-Level Awards

The BMW 7-Series was named the best vehicle overall, with other BMW models such as the 2-Series, iX, and X4 also receiving praise. Kia dominated the model-level awards with the Carnival, K5, Forte, EV6, and EV9 taking home top honors. Other winners include Alfa Romeo Giulia, Ford F-Series Super Duty, Genesis GV60, Hyundai Santa Fe, Jeep Wagoneer, Land Rover Range Rover, Lexus LC/RX, MINI Countryman, Nissan Titan, Porsche Taycan, and Toyota Tacoma.

Infotainment Systems

Infotainment systems received low satisfaction ratings, with an average score of 805. This places them below Android Auto (832) and Apple CarPlay (840). Consumers prefer a simple design that mimics their smartphone.

Conclusion

The J.D. Power APEAL study highlights the most satisfying vehicles and brands in the market. It shows that traditional manufacturers have listened to customer feedback and launched enhanced vehicles that meet their expectations. Luxury brands continue to outperform mainstream brands, but overall satisfaction with mainstream vehicles has also improved. The study provides valuable insights for consumers looking for a satisfying ownership experience.
