Rocky Auto’s Toyota 2000GT Replica: Coupe and Convertible Versions with New Engine | Giga Gears

Rocky Auto Unveils New Toyota 2000GT Replica with 2.0-Liter Powertrain and Open-Top Option

Toyota 2000GT Replica Rocky Auto

The Toyota 2000GT is a highly sought-after Japanese classic car, and its value in the used car market continues to rise. Rocky Auto, renowned for producing stunning 2JZ-powered replicas of the iconic Toyota sports car, has announced a new version featuring a 2.0-liter powertrain and the option of an open-top design.

Smaller Displacement, Closer to the Original

The Rocky Auto 2000GT is equipped with a 2.0-liter straight-six gasoline engine of undisclosed origin. This engine has a smaller displacement compared to the 3.0-liter 2JZ engine found in the existing Rocky Auto 3000GT, bringing it closer to the specifications of the original model. Notably, in Japan, license plate numbers indicate the engine displacement, with models under 2,000cc having 5-series plates and those above 2,000cc having 3-series plates, making the new replica even more convincing.

Coupe and Open-Top Versions

Toyota never offered a convertible version of the 2000GT, despite the popularity of a custom-made example that appeared in the 1967 James Bond film “You Only Live Twice.” Rocky Auto addresses this omission by introducing the 2000GT in both coupe and open-top versions. Apart from the additional bodystyle option, the design remains faithful to the 3000GT replica and stays true to the original. It’s important to note that Rocky Auto’s models are not based on an existing production vehicle but feature a custom-made chassis beneath their handmade bodywork.

Debut and Pricing

The Rocky Auto 2000GT made its debut at the Nagoya Mobility Car Show in late November, with the official launch scheduled for the Tokyo Auto Salon later this week. Both the coupe and open-top versions will be showcased at the event, and the company will announce the specifications of the 2.0-liter engine while accepting orders. Pricing details have not been disclosed yet, but the previous replica started at around $200,000, making it a more affordable alternative to an authentic Toyota 2000GT.
