In June 2023, a group of four scientists embarked on a mission to a simulated Martian habitat at NASA’s Johnson Space Center in Houston. This mission, known as CHAPEA 1, was the first of three planned “Crew Health and Performance Exploration Analog” missions by NASA.

The scientists spent an extended period in the simulated Martian habitat, testing various aspects of crew health and performance in preparation for future missions to the Red Planet. After completing their mission earlier this month, the scientists have returned from their simulated journey to Mars.
