“Seat Tarraco discontinued for Cupra Terramar | Giga Gears”

Seat Tarraco Axed to Make Room for Cupra Terramar

Introduction

The Seat Tarraco has been discontinued to pave the way for Cupra’s new Terramar SUV, marking the end of Seat’s largest model in the UK market since its launch in 2018.

Seat Tarraco Successor

Seat confirmed the decision, stating that there will be no successor to the Tarraco. Instead, the focus will shift to the new Cupra Terramar, set to debut in mid-2024. Production of the Tarraco will cease by Q2 2024.

Cupra Terramar Features

The Cupra Terramar, slightly shorter than the Tarraco, will offer a range of mild-hybrid and plug-in hybrid petrol powertrains. The plug-in hybrid variant is expected to achieve approximately 62 miles on electric-only power, comparable to models like the Volkswagen Passat and Skoda Superb estates.

Cupra Brand Expansion

The introduction of the Terramar SUV will play a vital role in expanding the Cupra brand into one of the market’s top-selling segments. Additionally, it will be Cupra’s final combustion-engined vehicle as the brand aims to transition to an all-electric lineup by 2030.

Seat’s Future Plans

Seat is focused on rebounding from the semiconductor shortage and reported a 24% increase in sales in 2023, with 288,400 cars sold. The brand will now concentrate on updating its existing models – Ateca, Arona, Ibiza, and Leon – to offer plug-in hybrid and fuel-efficient options until the end of the combustion era.
