Skoda to Launch New Entry-Level SUV in India in 2025

Skoda Confirms New Entry-Level SUV for Indian Market in 2025

Introduction

Skoda has officially announced the development of a new SUV specifically tailored for the Indian market. The upcoming model, set to debut in the first half of 2025, will be compact, measuring under 4 meters in length, positioning itself as an entry-level SUV for the region.

Background

Since 2021, Skoda has been contemplating the idea of introducing a smaller SUV to cater to emerging markets. This new model will mark the third Skoda vehicle designed exclusively for India, following the successful launches of the Kushaq SUV and the Slavia sedan. The decision to focus on this smaller segment is driven by local regulations that favor sub-4m models, making them more accessible to a wider range of customers.

Design and Features

The teaser sketch released by Skoda showcases the front end of the upcoming SUV, featuring slim LEDs reminiscent of the European Skoda Kamiq. The model will ride on the MQB-A0-IN architecture, a cost-effective platform developed by Skoda for emerging markets. It will share its underpinnings with existing models like the Skoda Slavia / Kushaq and the VW Virtus / Taigun, albeit with a smaller footprint.

Market Competition

With its sub-4m length, the new Skoda SUV will be the smallest offering in the brand’s global portfolio. In India, it will compete with rivals such as the Citroen New C3, Hyundai Venue, Nissan Magnite, Toyota Raize, and Tata Nexon. The name for this new model will be chosen through a social media campaign called #NameYourSkoda, with options all starting with K and ending with Q.

Future Prospects

Klaus Zellmer, CEO of Skoda Auto, emphasized the importance of India in the brand’s global growth strategy. He expressed confidence that the new compact SUV scheduled for 2025 will play a significant role in achieving a market share target of around 5 percent for the Volkswagen family of brands in India by 2030.

Conclusion

The upcoming launch of the new Skoda SUV signifies a step forward in the brand’s commitment to the Indian market. With a focus on local preferences and regulations, Skoda aims to strengthen its presence in India and other emerging markets through innovative and customer-centric offerings.
