Smart #3 Giga Gears: Unleashing the Power of Smart Technology

Introducing the New Smart #3: A Stylish EV for the Modern Driver

In a surprising move, Smart has taken a new direction with its latest offering, the Smart #3. While it may be undeniably attractive, this car leaves us questioning the brand’s true identity. As I reflect on my time behind the wheel, it becomes clear that “The New Smart” – a brand reinvented in 2019 with the support of Mercedes-Benz and Chinese car-industry giant Geely – is charting a new course.

Gone are the days of Smart being known for its innovative microcars. It has evolved beyond that, and from a business standpoint, this may be a smart move. However, if their goal was to showcase the same audacious spirit that birthed the most iconic small car of the past fifty years, they have missed the mark.

Perhaps we can forgive their decision to kickstart their revival with an all-electric compact crossover SUV, the Smart #1. After all, they need to sell cars to stay in the game. But transitioning to a larger, sleeker, and more luxurious mid-sized “SUV Coupe” cum hatchback like the #3 is a departure from their innovative roots. It competes with the likes of the Polestar 2, Volvo C40 Recharge, Tesla Model 3, and even the Cupra Born. Unfortunately, this move does not scream “I’m innovative” or “Choose me, I’m different.”

Currently, in the realm of mid-sized EVs, it’s difficult to define what sets one apart. However, the Smart #3 certainly doesn’t fit the bill.
