0-150-0 MPH Speed Test Reveals Surprising Results for These 12 Cars

We love tests that go beyond the usual automotive attributes and provide unique insights. The recent 0-150-0 mph (0-241-0 km/h) speed test conducted by Car&Driver is one such test that reveals details you won’t find on paper. In this test, 12 cars competed, and the results might surprise you.

The Performance Rankings

While all the cars in the test can reach a top speed of 150 mph (241 km/h), their acceleration and braking performance varied significantly. The Hyundai Elantra N, despite being the weakest car in terms of power, completed the test in just 47 seconds flat, outperforming the more powerful Honda Civic Type R, which took 52.7 seconds.

However, the slower performance of the Civic Type R can be attributed to its track-focused design and a large gearing gap between fifth and sixth gear. Shifting from fifth to sixth gear at around 144 mph (232 km/h) creates a drag that affects acceleration, resulting in a slower overall time.

The Surprises

Two surprising contenders in the test were the Bentley Bentayga S and the Kia EV6 GT AWD. Despite its weight of over 5,000 lbs (2,267 kg) and modest power output, the Bentayga S finished in ninth place with a time of 32.8 seconds. The Kia EV6 GT AWD outperformed both the Bentley and the Honda, showcasing its impressive performance capabilities.

The Top Performers

Among the proven performance cars, the Ford Mustang Dark Horse demonstrated exceptional braking performance, trailing only behind the Porsche 911 GT3. The Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing also showcased impressive stopping power, outperforming most cars except for the Corvette and Porsches. The Porsche 911 Turbo S, despite its high price tag of $253,510, proved its incredible performance capabilities.

Additional Insights

The test also revealed some interesting insights. The Tesla Model S completed the test separately in just 16.2 seconds, while the Lucid Air Sapphire achieved an even faster time of 15.5 seconds. To see the full video and more in-car footage, check out Car&Driver’s video below.

Overall, the 0-150-0 mph speed test provided surprising results and showcased the diverse performance capabilities of these 12 cars. It goes to show that numbers on paper don’t always tell the full story.
