Introduction

Stolen cars continue to be a lucrative business, and Arkansas police were alerted to be on the lookout for a stolen Dodge Charger on August 9. The following day, they spotted the vehicle and initiated a pursuit that reached speeds of up to 160 mph (258 km/h). The chase ultimately ended in a fiery crash, ejecting the driver from the car.

The Chase

  • Arkansas police spotted an allegedly stolen Dodge and initiated a pursuit.
  • The chase ended when the Charger reportedly crashed while traveling at 160 mph.
  • The crash ejected the driver from the vehicle, but he miraculously survived.

The Stolen Dodge Charger

The initial report of the stolen Dodge Charger came from Memphis, TN. Arkansas State Troopers identified the same car about an hour away from Memphis on August 10. The Charger in question was a powerful Hellcat model, known for its ability to evade police. However, this time, the driver was unable to escape the pursuing officers.

The Fiery Crash

During the chase, the Charger driver ran a stop sign and encountered a slightly raised section of road near a train track. The car became airborne, tumbling end over end before landing in a ditch. By the time the officer caught up to the crash site, the driver had been ejected from the vehicle.

The Arrest

The driver claimed to be a bystander who was hit by the car, but officers quickly determined this was false. The suspect, DeVandre James, was taken into custody. Despite being thrown from the car, James survived the crash and was flown to Regional One Medical Center in Memphis for treatment.

Conclusion

The 18-year-old suspect narrowly escaped death in the crash, landing on the other side of the street from a cemetery. Hopefully, this incident serves as a wake-up call for him to turn his life around.
