New Car Owners Overwhelmed By Some Modern Tech, Genesis Does It Best, Study Finds
Introduction
J.D. Power’s latest U.S. Tech Experience Index Study reveals that new car owners are feeling overwhelmed by certain modern technologies. However, the study also highlights that some brands are excelling in this area, with Genesis coming out on top.
Facial Recognition and Fingerprint Scanners
The study found that consumers are not big fans of systems that include facial recognition and fingerprint scanners. These technologies are seen as trying to solve a problem that owners didn’t know existed. In fact, 21% of respondents reported that gesture controls lack functionality, and owners have reported an average of 43.4 problems per 100 vehicles for such systems.
Front Passenger Screens
Front passenger screens are also not popular among new car owners. Many owners find them unnecessary, cite usability issues, and believe they add complexity to the delivery process of new vehicles.
Genesis Takes the Lead
Among the brands analyzed, Genesis was ranked as the best overall brand and the best premium brand for the fourth consecutive year. It earned a top Innovation Index score of 584 out of 1,000, surpassing Lexus and BMW. The Genesis GV70 received individual recognition for its front cross-traffic warning technology.
Hyundai Tops Mass-Market Brands
Hyundai emerged as the top mass-market brand for the fifth year in a row, with a score of 518. It outperformed Kia and GMC in this category.
Conclusion
J.D. Power’s study highlights the challenges faced by new car owners when it comes to modern technologies. However, brands like Genesis and Hyundai are leading the way in providing innovative and tailored solutions that enhance the driving experience.
