Subaru Backs Japan’s Beach Lifesavers with Foresters & Crosstreks

Subaru Collaborates with Japanese Lifesaving Association for Water Safety

Subaru, the renowned automobile manufacturer, has set an ambitious goal of achieving zero traffic accident fatalities by 2030. However, before that milestone is reached, Subaru has joined forces with the Japanese Lifesaving Association (JLA) to eliminate waterside accidents in Japan. This collaboration began in 2020 and continues this year with a fleet of 32 specially-prepared Subaru vehicles dedicated to surveillance and rescue activities along Japan’s shores.

The Subaru Life Saver Car, based on the popular Forester SUV, plays a crucial role in beach patrols, safety guidance, and rescue missions. To showcase the expansion of this fleet, Subaru recently shared videos on YouTube highlighting the unique features of these vehicles. The first video focuses on the vehicle’s highlights, while the second video provides a glimpse into the Baywatch-style team that operates these lifesaving vehicles.

The Forester used for these water safety operations features a distinctive livery that combines yellow and red graphics, adorned with the Subaru and JLA emblems on the bonnet. The “Surf Lifesaver” SUV is equipped with a Thule roof rack to carry essential equipment such as surfboards. Inside the vehicle, special waterproof seat covers, rubber floor mats, and boot covers make it easy to clean off sand and water. Most importantly, each vehicle is equipped with portable Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs), which aid first responders in diagnosing life-threatening cardiac arrhythmias and performing lifesaving procedures.

While the videos primarily showcase the Forester, West Kyushu Subaru recently unveiled photos of a special Crosstrek that will also be used for water safety operations. The Crosstrek features a similar livery and shares the same equipment features as the Forester, including the Thule rack, seat covers, and rubber floor covers. This specialized crossover has already begun operating in the Nagasaki Prefecture, expanding Subaru’s reach in ensuring water safety.

In addition to providing specialized vehicles, Subaru is actively involved in sponsoring seminars conducted by JLA instructors in Japan. These seminars aim to train more lifesavers and raise awareness about water safety. By supporting these educational initiatives, Subaru is making a significant contribution to reducing waterside accidents and promoting a culture of safety.

Subaru’s collaboration with the Japanese Lifesaving Association aligns with the company’s commitment to safety and its vision of zero traffic accident fatalities. By leveraging their expertise in automotive engineering and partnering with organizations dedicated to water safety, Subaru is taking proactive steps to protect lives and prevent accidents.

As Subaru continues its efforts towards achieving zero traffic accident fatalities by 2030, collaborations like this one with the Japanese Lifesaving Association serve as a testament to their commitment to safety. By combining their resources and expertise, Subaru and JLA are making significant strides in reducing waterside accidents and ensuring the safety of individuals enjoying Japan’s beautiful shores.
