Suzuki Drops Four Models in the UK Due to Eco-Friendly Legislation
Introduction
Suzuki has announced the discontinuation of the Swift Sport, Jimny LCV, Ignis, and Swace models in the UK. This decision is a response to the stringent eco-friendly legislation in Europe and the United Kingdom.
Shift Towards Hybrids and EVs
The European Union and the UK are pushing automakers to transition to electric vehicles and adhere to stricter emissions standards. In line with this, Suzuki is focusing on hybrids and EVs, with plans to introduce their first electric car next year.
Elimination of Models
Suzuki is phasing out the Swift Sport, Jimny LCV, Ignis, and Swace models to comply with UK and EU regulations. These models will no longer be available in the UK by early 2025, paving the way for a hybrid-centric lineup.
Future Plans
Following the discontinuation of these models, Suzuki will concentrate on hybrid vehicles like the Swift, Vitara, S-Cross, and Across PHEV. The brand’s first electric vehicle is set to debut next year, with more EVs planned through 2030.
Suzuki’s EV Strategy
Suzuki’s Managing Director, Dale Wyatt, emphasized the brand’s shift towards EVs, stating that they aim to exit the ICE era and focus on SUVs and electric vehicles. The upcoming EV was previewed by the eVX concept, featuring a 60 kWh battery pack with a range of 342 miles.
