Teen Faces 10-Year Prison Sentence for Stealing Lexus from New York Dealership

Stealing cars can have severe consequences, especially for repeat offenders. A 17-year-old teenager recently learned this the hard way when he was caught stealing a car from Burdick Lexus, a dealership in New York state. As a result, the District Attorney’s office has offered him a 10-year prison sentence deal.

Car Theft Spree

The teenager, along with a group of six teenagers, allegedly stole three cars from two different dealerships on the night of August 22. The stolen vehicles included a Dodge Challenger and Jeep Grand Wagoneer from Burdick Dodge, as well as a Lexus RC from Burdick Lexus. Fortunately, the police were able to recover all three vehicles shortly after they were reported stolen.

CCTV footage from Burdick Lexus shows the black 2023 Lexus RC350 being driven through the dealer’s front windows at 3:36 AM on August 22. The car’s windows and sunroof were open, suggesting that some of the shattered glass ended up inside the cabin.

Multiple Burglaries

Unfortunately for the suspect, his car theft incident at Burdick Lexus was not an isolated event. He is also accused of breaking into several other dealerships and stealing a total of six vehicles between August 12-23. The stolen cars were recovered from the suspect’s street, and car keys were found in his home. The burglaries caused an estimated $100,000-250,000 in property damage.

In addition to the car dealership break-ins, the suspect also broke into a pizza shop, a mini-market, and five other car dealerships. These incidents occurred when the suspect was visiting his home after being released from a youth detention facility.

Potential Prison Sentence

The 17-year-old is facing a 24-count indictment, which could result in a prison sentence between 14-36 years and 44-105 years. However, he has been offered a 10-year deal specifically for the Lexus incident. He has until December 6 to accept or deny the offer.

Conclusion

Car theft is a serious crime with severe consequences. This 17-year-old teenager is now facing the possibility of a lengthy prison sentence for his involvement in stealing cars from various dealerships. The case serves as a reminder of the risks and penalties associated with car theft.
