Tesla and GM Lead in Brand Loyalty, with Lincoln Model Taking Top Spot

The Impact of the Pandemic on Customer Loyalty in the Automotive Industry

As the automotive industry navigated the challenges brought about by the pandemic, one significant impact was the erosion of customer loyalty. New vehicle buyers were more inclined to explore various options due to uncertainties in supply chains and market conditions. However, with supply chains gradually returning to normal, consumer behaviors, including loyalty, have started to stabilize.

Stabilizing Trends in Customer Loyalty

In 2022, brand loyalty in the automotive sector stood at 50.2 percent. A recent study revealed that in 2023, loyalty levels saw a modest increase of 0.8 percentage points, reaching 51 percent. While this may seem like a small jump, it signifies the first increase in loyalty levels since 2019. Factors contributing to this uptick include improved inventory levels at dealerships, making vehicle shopping more accessible for consumers.

General Motors Leads in Customer Loyalty

General Motors emerged as the manufacturer with the most loyal customers in 2023, according to S&P Global. This marked the ninth consecutive year and the 20th time in the last 28 years that the American automaker secured this accolade.
