“Tesla Charging Adapter Coming Soon for Ford Mustang Mach-E and F-150 Lightning Owners”

Ford to Provide Complimentary Charging Adapters for Mustang Mach-E and F-150 Lightning Owners

Ford made headlines last year when it announced plans to adopt the North American Charging Standard and allow its electric vehicles (EVs) access to Tesla’s Supercharger network. Since then, many other automakers have followed suit. Now, Ford CEO Jim Farley has provided an update on this initiative. In a post on Elon Musk’s social network, Farley revealed that certain Mustang Mach-E and F-150 Lightning owners in the United States and Canada will soon be able to reserve a complimentary charging adapter. This adapter will enable their vehicles to be charged at Superchargers as well as other stations using a Tesla connector.

Convenient Charging Experience for Ford Owners

According to Farley, these complimentary adapters are Ford’s way of expressing gratitude to its customers and making the charging experience more convenient. Ford owners will gain access to Superchargers starting this spring, and by 2025, the company will fully embrace the North American Charging Standard, eliminating the need for adapters altogether.

Reservations and Eligibility

Reservations for the adapter will open in the coming months and will be limited to eligible owners. While specific eligibility criteria have not been disclosed yet, it is expected that both current owners and future buyers will benefit from this initiative.

Integration with Google Maps

This announcement comes on the heels of another exciting development for Ford EV owners. Google recently revealed that EVs will soon be able to share real-time battery information with Google Maps. This integration will provide various benefits, such as estimating the battery level upon arrival at a destination, suggesting charging stops along the way, and estimating charging time based on the vehicle. The feature will debut in the Mustang Mach-E and F-150 Lightning before expanding to other Ford vehicles.

Update: Eligibility Details

In an update, Farley provided additional details on eligibility. Customers who own 2021-2024 model year Mustang Mach-E and F-150 Lightning vehicles will be eligible for the complimentary charging adapter. The reservation process will be validated by Vehicle Identification Number (VIN), with one charger per VIN. Ford will cover the cost of shipping. More information on how to reserve and the technical specifications of the adapter will be shared soon.
