Tesla Model Y’s $8K Dealer Wrap: DIY Fail or Giga Gears Mishap?

Tesla Model Y Forest Green Wrap Installation Review

Tesla Model Y Forest Green Wrap

Introduction

Recently, Tesla introduced exterior wraps for the Model 3 and Model Y in North America. A YouTuber had the
opportunity to examine a freshly-wrapped Model Y in person. While the Forest Green color is impressive, the
quality of the wrap installation raises concerns.

Tesla’s Wrap Offerings

Tesla offers seven different wrap colors at its Service Centers in West Covina and Carlsbad, California. Three of
them are priced at $7,500, while the other four are priced at $8,000. The Forest Green wrap falls into the
latter category, costing approximately twice as much as what you would pay at an independent wrapping shop.

Poor Installation Quality

Despite the high cost of Tesla’s wraps, the installation quality of this specific display model is subpar. The
video review showcases various issues with the wrap, giving the impression that it was applied by an
inexperienced installer. This level of workmanship is unexpected from a major car manufacturer like Tesla.

Installation Responsibility

It remains unclear whether Tesla Service Centers handle the wrap installations themselves or if they outsource
the task to a third party. Regardless, the quality of the installation is unacceptable. Many edges are not
properly adhered, bubbles have formed in certain areas, and corners are lifting.

Tesla’s Wrap Claims

Tesla claims that their wrap is more similar to a colored paint protection film (PPF) than a standard vinyl wrap.
It is believed to be slightly thicker and more resistant to impacts. However, these claims do not excuse the
poor installation and high price of the wrap.

Conclusion

While Tesla’s Forest Green wrap for the Model Y may seem appealing, the quality of the installation raises
concerns. Customers should carefully consider the high cost and potential issues before opting for this option.
