Tesla Recalls 1.85 Million EVs Because They Might Not Warn Drivers That The Hood Is Unlatched

Recall Details

  • Tesla is recalling 1.85 million vehicles in the US due to a hood-latching issue.
  • Affected models include certain Model 3, Model S, Model X, and Model Y vehicles built between 2013 and 2024.
  • The recall is related to a software problem that may prevent the detection and warning of an unlatched hood.

The Recall King

Tesla has surpassed Ford as the recall leader in 2024 with this latest recall. Earlier this year, Ford held the top spot for the number of recalls, but Tesla has now taken the lead.

The Hood-Latching Issue

The recall is necessary because the Chinese-made latch mechanism in the affected vehicles may not sense when the hood is unlatched. This poses a safety risk as the hood could potentially fold back and obstruct the driver’s vision.

Software Update

Tesla has already released an over-the-air software update to address the hood-latching issue. This means that owners do not need to visit a dealer for the fix.

Total Recall Count

With this latest recall, Tesla’s total number of recalled vehicles in 2024 now stands at 4.4 million. Ford, on the other hand, has recalled 3.66 million vehicles. Although Ford has announced more recall campaigns than Tesla, it is expected that Ford will continue to add to its list in the near future.
