Tesla Software Update to Alert Drivers of Red Lights and Speed Cameras
Tesla drivers are about to receive assistance with red lights and speed cameras
A notable Tesla hacker has discovered code in an upcoming software update that will alert Tesla drivers to the presence of both red light cameras and speed cameras.
New update includes awareness of both fixed and mobile cameras
The update, known as 2023.27.12 (beta 11.4.8.1), not only provides awareness of fixed cameras but also allows users to report police speed traps as they move from one location to another.
Introducing the “driver liveliness” assessment
In addition to the camera-related updates, the software update also introduces a new feature called “driver liveliness” assessment. While the direct connection is not confirmed, Tesla recently announced the use of an in-cabin camera to monitor driver attentiveness during Autopilot use. The new assessment could be an extension or branch of this feature.
Additional features coming soon
The hacker also discovered that future updates will include the ability for drivers to instruct the navigation system to avoid construction on their route. Additionally, drivers will have control over how the navigation system indicates U-turns.
Enhancing an already rich system
These new features add to Tesla’s already impressive system, providing drivers with even more functionality and convenience.
Keeping up with the competition
While apps like Google Maps, Waze, and Highway Radar already offer information about red light cameras, speed cameras, and speed traps, Tesla’s integration of these features is a welcome surprise, especially considering the lack of Apple CarPlay or Android Auto integration in Tesla vehicles.
