Tesla’s New Referral Program: Cash Discount and Free Store Credits

Tesla Updates Referral Program for Model 3 and Model Y Owners

Tesla has recently announced updates to its referral program for Model 3 and Model Y owners in the United States, Canada, and China. The new program offers various incentives for both owners and buyers, including credits, discounts, and free trials of Tesla’s advanced features.

In the United States, existing Model 3 and Model Y owners can earn up to 10,000 credits by referring someone to buy a Tesla. These credits can be used to redeem Full Self-Driving for a period of three months or to redeem other software upgrades, merchandise, or accessories. On the other hand, buyers who are referred by existing owners will receive a CA$650 / $500 discount off their purchase and also get three months of Full Self-Driving for free.

Similarly, in China, owners and buyers of Model 3 and Model Ys can benefit from the referral program. They can receive a 3,500 yuan (~$480) referral award, a 90-day free trial to the Enhanced Autopilot system, and 7,000 referral points. These points can be used to redeem various items through the Tesla store.

It is worth noting that Tesla also revamped the referral program for Model S and Model X owners in June. Under this program, owners are rewarded with 20,000 credits if someone using their referral link purchases a Model S or Model X. In return, buyers will receive either a CA$1,300 or $1,000 discount off the purchase price of their new electric vehicle (EV) while also getting a three-month trial of the Full Self-Driving Beta.

However, it is important to mention that Tesla’s referral program is not as generous as it used to be. In the past, the program offered a free next-generation Roadster for those who made 50 or more successful referrals. Unfortunately, this incentive was discontinued after 80 Tesla owners became eligible for a free Roadster. Since the Roadster is still not in production, these 80 owners are patiently waiting for the delivery of their free $250,000 electric supercars.

The updated referral program reflects Tesla’s commitment to rewarding its loyal customers while also encouraging new buyers to join the Tesla community. By offering credits, discounts, and free trials of advanced features, Tesla aims to provide added value to its customers and enhance their overall ownership experience.

The inclusion of Full Self-Driving as a redeemable option is particularly noteworthy. Full Self-Driving is Tesla’s most advanced autonomous driving feature, enabling the vehicle to navigate on its own with minimal human intervention. By allowing owners to redeem this feature for a limited period, Tesla is giving them a taste of the future of transportation and showcasing the capabilities of its cutting-edge technology.

Furthermore, the referral program encourages word-of-mouth marketing, which has been a key driver of Tesla’s success. By incentivizing existing owners to refer others, Tesla leverages the power of personal recommendations to expand its customer base. This approach not only saves on traditional marketing costs but also creates a sense of community among Tesla owners who can share their experiences and enthusiasm for the brand.

In conclusion, Tesla’s updated referral program for Model 3 and Model Y owners offers enticing incentives for both owners and buyers. With credits, discounts, and free trials of advanced features, Tesla aims to reward its loyal customers while attracting new ones. By embracing word-of-mouth marketing and providing a glimpse into the future of transportation, Tesla continues to differentiate itself in the EV market and strengthen its position as a leader in sustainable mobility.
