It may come as a surprise to some, but the queer community has a strong affinity for cars. In fact, within my circle of friends, there are several self-proclaimed “car gays” who are passionate about all things automotive. Working in the automotive industry, particularly at Mercedes-Benz Research and Development, I quickly discovered that it is a welcoming and inclusive space for queer individuals.

Embracing Diversity in the Automotive World

When I first started as a test driver at Mercedes-Benz, I was pleasantly surprised by the diversity and acceptance within the industry. From rainbow-themed vehicles like the “gay Ranger Raptor” to the overall atmosphere of inclusivity, it was clear that the automotive world was a space where queer individuals could thrive.

Exploring the Connection Between Queer Identity and Cars

As a queer individual myself, I have found that cars provide a powerful platform for expressing pride and identity. Whether it’s participating in events like the Los Angeles Pride Parade or simply enjoying the thrill of driving, cars play a significant role in the lives of many queer individuals.
