Toyota GR86 Sales Surge 42% as Subaru BRZ Drops 44%

The Toyota GR86 Outselling Subaru BRZ: What’s Behind the Numbers?

Sibling Rivalry in Car Sales

When it comes to the Subaru BRZ and its Toyota sibling, the GR86, the numbers tell an interesting story. The GR86 is outselling the BRZ by a ratio of five to one, with Toyota reporting a 41.9 percent increase in sales compared to the previous year.

Toyota and Subaru Sales Trends

Both Toyota and Subaru have seen overall increases in their US sales, but the disparity between the GR86 and BRZ sales is striking. While Toyota has sold 7,467 GR86s so far this year, Subaru has only managed to sell 1,414 BRZs.

Subaru’s Struggles

Subaru’s sales figures for other models also paint a challenging picture, with the BRZ accounting for only a fraction of the company’s total deliveries. In June alone, Subaru sold just 243 BRZs out of a total of 55,228 vehicles.

Positive Trends for Subaru and Toyota

Despite the challenges with the BRZ, Subaru has seen a six percent increase in year-to-date sales compared to the previous year. The Outback remains Subaru’s best-seller, while the Crosstrek and Solterra have recorded their best-ever June sales figures.

Toyota, on the other hand, has increased its sales by 14.7 percent for the first half of the year. The GR86’s success in June is part of a broader positive trend for Toyota, with several other models also performing well.

Looking Ahead

While Subaru faces challenges with the BRZ, both companies are navigating the competitive automotive market in their own ways. It will be interesting to see how these trends continue to evolve in the coming months.
