Toyota Introduces New Land Cruiser J250 and Crown Sedan Models in China
Introduction
Toyota is expanding its lineup in China with the upcoming launch of the new Land Cruiser J250 and Crown Sedan models. These vehicles were recently teased by FAW Toyota and are set to make their debut at the Guangzhou Auto Show on November 17, 2023.
The Toyota Crown Sedan
The Toyota Crown Sedan, which was recently launched in Japan, is expected to have a similar exterior design for the Chinese market. The model features a low-slung body and a spacious wheelbase of 3,000 mm (118.1 inches), making it an attractive option for Chinese buyers who prioritize rear-passenger comfort.
Powertrain Options
Details about the powertrain options for the Chinese market have not been released yet. In Japan, the Crown Sedan is available in hybrid and FCEV variants, with prices starting from ¥7.3 million ($48,300) and ¥8.3 million ($54,900) respectively.
The Toyota Land Cruiser Prado
The powertrain options for the Chinese version of the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado have not been confirmed. However, it is likely that the model will offer petrol, hybrid, and diesel options, similar to other regions where it is available.
Manufacturing Location
It is unclear whether the Crown Sedan and Land Cruiser Prado will be manufactured at FAW’s Tianjin Plant in China. While most FAW Toyota models are locally produced, some models, such as the Crown Crossover, are imported. GAC Toyota, another joint venture with Toyota in China, may also introduce its own versions of these models in the future.
Toyota’s Presence in China
Toyota maintains two joint ventures in China, with FAW and GAC. Both partnerships offer a range of Toyota models with different names and configurations. Popular models available in the Chinese market include the Corolla, Corolla Cross, C-HR, RAV4, Highlander, and bZ4x.
