Toyota Oz Eliminates Gas-Only Options for Popular Models

Toyota Australia Shifts Focus to Hybrid Vehicles

Toyota Australia is responding to the increasing demand for hybrid vehicles by emphasizing their hybrid lineup. Several popular models, including the Corolla, Camry, Corolla Cross, RAV4, and Kluger, are now available exclusively as hybrids.

Hybrid-Only Models

This strategic move by Toyota aligns with their goal of achieving a carbon-neutral future in Australia. By phasing out petrol-only versions of these models, the company aims to meet the growing demand for hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs) and battery electric vehicles (BEVs).

Customer Demand Driving Change

Toyota attributes this shift to robust customer demand for hybrid vehicles. The company predicts that HEVs and BEVs will account for more than half of its Australian sales by 2025.

Exclusions from Hybrid-Only Mandate

While Toyota’s mainstream models are going hybrid-only, the Gazoo Racing and Land Cruiser lineups will retain their non-electrified engines. This includes popular models like the HiLux pickup, Fortuner SUV, and Hiace/Granvia vans.

Future Outlook

Toyota Australia Vice President Sean Hanley expressed confidence in the future of HEVs as the dominant powertrain choice for passenger cars and SUVs. The company’s HEV sales have been steadily increasing, reaching record numbers in recent years.

In collaboration with Subaru and Mazda, Toyota is committed to developing combustion engines that are compatible with electrification and alternative fuels. This multi-pathway approach demonstrates Toyota’s dedication to innovation and sustainability in the automotive industry.
