Unique 1981 BMW M1 at Giga Gears

The Rare Silver BMW M1: A Collector’s Dream

Are you a fan of classic cars? If so, you won’t want to miss the opportunity to own one of just three BMW M1s ever produced in a stunning silver color. This unique vehicle is set to go up for auction next month, with an estimated price tag of $750,000 to $950,000. Could this be the ultimate 1980s supercar?

A Special Piece of BMW History

The BMW M1 was created by the M division with racing in mind, leading to the production of only 399 road-going models to meet homologation requirements. While every M1 is special, this particular one stands out as the only model painted in a rare Polaris metallic silver shade, different from the other two silver M1s with a slightly different hue.

Originally manufactured on February 23, 1981, this car was first delivered in France before being exported to Japan in 1983. After spending over 20 years in Japan, it made its way back to Europe in 2006. The car has been well-maintained and driven sparingly, with the odometer showing just 6,046 km since 2007. It was resprayed in its original silver color in 2014 and acquired by the current U.S.-based seller in 2016.

A Classic Powerhouse

Under the hood, the BMW M1 is powered by a 3.5-liter six-cylinder petrol engine with individual throttle bodies, producing 273 hp at 6,500 rpm and 243 lb-ft of torque at 5,000 rpm. Paired with a ZF five-speed manual transmission, this car offers a pure driving experience without the modern safety systems found in today’s sports cars.

Own a Piece of Automotive History

The new owner of this rare BMW M1 will not only get the car but also a collection of original manuals, a tool kit, photos documenting its history, an M1-branded suitcase, and a comprehensive history file with BMW Classic certification. If you’re interested in owning this piece of automotive history, don’t miss the chance to bid on it at RM Sotheby’s auction during the Moda Miami event on March 1, 2024.
