Unique AWD Nissan 350Z for Off-Road Adventures

The Nissan 350Z has long been a popular choice for car enthusiasts looking to modify and tune their vehicles. However, one owner has taken a unique approach by turning his 350Z into an off-road machine. This modified car features Method wheels, 30-inch off-road tires, and a suspension lift to help it perform off the pavement. The lift is achieved using a set of coilovers with the softest manufacturer-recommended springs, urethane spacers, and parts from an Infiniti FX for extra height. To protect the car, there is a front bash bar and skid plate, while light pods and a roof rack help to sell the rugged off-roader look.

What sets this modified 350Z apart from others is the fact that the owner has swapped in the all-wheel drive system from an Infiniti G37x. The transfer case is locked, making for a 50/50 front-rear torque split. To get the system to fit, the owner also incorporated the subframe, differential, and some suspension components from the G37. This was no easy feat, as getting all the electronics to mesh required a lot of work.

Under the hood, this modified 350Z features a VQ37VHR 3.7L V6 engine, which is most commonly associated with powering the Nissan 370Z and Infiniti G37. The stock engine produces 328 hp (333 PS / 245 kW) to the crank, and the owner is hoping to have it make 310 hp (314 PS / 231 kW) to the wheels after drivetrain losses. The engine is paired with an automatic transmission, despite the Z originally being manual. This is because it’s the only option the G37x came with and the only transmission that would properly interface with the all-wheel drive system. The owner is working on getting the manual mode to work so that he can at least select his own gears, even if he can’t physically shift them himself.

Overall, this modified 350Z is a unique take on a popular tuning platform. The owner’s decision to turn it into an off-road machine has resulted in a car that looks like an absolute riot to drive. With its Method wheels, off-road tires, and suspension lift, this 350Z is ready to take on any terrain. The all-wheel drive system from an Infiniti G37x adds another layer of capability, making this car a true one-of-a-kind.
