  • Issue: Headlight control module software designed for the EU market
  • Solution: Dealers will update the software

Background

Porsche has announced a recall of nearly 1,000 Taycan models in the US due to a regional mix-up in the headlight control module software. The affected vehicles, manufactured between October 18, 2023, and March 8, 2024, fail to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards in the US. This recall follows a previous recall related to a brake issue in nearly 32,000 Taycans.

Recall Process

Porsche was alerted to the issue in April and discovered that the supplier had included ECE-compliant lighting behavior in the data set for US and Canada models. Dealerships will be informed of the recall on September 16, and owners will receive notifications starting from November 1. Dealers will update the headlight control module with a new data set to ensure compliance with US regulations.

Impact on Safety

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has identified that the performance of the parking lamps and turn signals can reduce visibility to other road users, increasing the risk of a crash. A total of 954 Taycans are involved in this recall.

Conclusion

Porsche is taking proactive measures to address the headlight control module software issue in the Taycan models. By recalling the affected vehicles and updating the software, the company aims to ensure compliance with safety standards and enhance road safety for Taycan owners.
