Introduction

VinFast, the Vietnamese automaker, faced initial challenges with its U.S. vehicle launch, receiving mixed reviews and experiencing technology-related delays. However, the company is now taking steps to enhance the ownership experience for customers who encounter issues with their electric vehicles (EVs). VinFast is offering cash payouts as incentives to address service problems.

Cash Incentives for Service Issues

According to a report by Automotive News, VinFast owners can receive cash compensation ranging from $100 to $300 per issue. Additionally, if the vehicle remains in the shop for more than three days, customers can receive up to $100 per day. These incentives are in addition to the automaker’s comprehensive new vehicle warranty, which covers defects for ten years or 120,000 miles.

Expansion Plans and Building Trust

VinFast currently sells its vehicles directly to buyers but aims to establish a network of 125 third-party dealers nationwide by the end of 2024. As a new player in the competitive and fast-paced automotive market, the company recognizes the importance of building trust and attracting customers.

Reasons Behind the Cash Incentives

It remains unclear whether VinFast’s decision to offer cash incentives is a response to customer feedback or a strategic move to attract buyers. While electric vehicles generally require less routine maintenance, certain components, such as batteries, can be costly to repair or replace. Despite selling only 237 new vehicles in California this year, VinFast acknowledges the potential financial implications of this policy.
