VinFast’s VF 8 Approaching Europe, Brace Yourself | Giga Gears

VinFast Granted European Approval for VF 8 Electric SUV, Plans to Deliver to Europe by End of 2023

VinFast, the Vietnamese automaker, has recently received regulatory approval from Europe for its VF 8 electric SUV. This approval allows VinFast to deliver the first batch of vehicles to Germany, France, and the Netherlands before the end of 2023. Around 3,000 units of the VF 8, which is comparable in size to Tesla’s Model Y, will be shipped from VinFast’s plant in northern Vietnam.

The VF 8 Eco, the base model of the electric SUV, is priced at $50,990 in France. While this may seem expensive compared to the Model Y’s price of €45,990, the VF 8 offers some advantages. It boasts a claimed electric range of 293 miles (471 km), slightly better than the Model Y’s 283 miles (455 km). Additionally, the VF 8 accelerates from 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) in just 5.5 seconds, which is closer to the Dual-Motor, Long Range Model Y’s time of 5.5 seconds compared to the base Model Y’s time of 6.9 seconds.

VinFast’s entry into the European market comes at a time when the EU is considering imposing import tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles due to concerns about unfair competition. Chinese EVs are expected to be even more affordable than VinFast’s offerings. However, if tariffs are implemented, VinFast’s SUVs could have a competitive advantage in attracting EU-based buyers.

Despite the potential advantages, VinFast’s VF 8 has received negative reviews from American testers. The vehicle was heavily criticized for various issues including strange noises, a harsh ride, uncomfortable seats, a frustrating infotainment system, and a limited driving range. While VinFast claims to have software fixes for some of these problems, not all issues can be easily resolved. Consequently, U.S. sales have fallen below expectations, with only 128 registrations in the first five months of this year.

It remains to be seen whether VinFast can address the concerns raised by American reviewers and improve the overall quality of their vehicles. The European market presents a new opportunity for the Vietnamese automaker to prove itself and gain recognition for its electric SUVs.

In a video review titled “We Drove the Worst Reviewed Car in America,” VinFast’s VF 8 was subjected to criticism and scrutiny. The video highlighted the various shortcomings of the vehicle and contributed to its negative reputation. However, it is important to note that VinFast has acknowledged these issues and claims to have made improvements through software updates.

VinFast’s entry into the European market signifies its ambition to expand its global presence and compete with established automakers. The company has made significant investments in research and development, aiming to position itself as a key player in the electric vehicle industry.

With regulatory approval in Europe, VinFast is set to deliver its VF 8 electric SUVs to European customers by the end of 2023. The company’s ability to address the concerns raised by American testers and provide a compelling offering in terms of price, range, and performance will determine its success in the highly competitive European market.

In conclusion, VinFast’s VF 8 electric SUV has received European regulatory approval and is scheduled to be delivered to Germany, France, and the Netherlands by the end of 2023. While the vehicle has faced criticism in the U.S., VinFast has an opportunity to address these concerns and establish itself as a viable competitor in the European market. The success of VinFast’s entry into Europe will depend on its ability to deliver a high-quality product that meets the expectations of European customers.
