Volvo EM90: Cutting-Edge Electric Luxury MPV

Volvo to Launch Luxury Electric MPV in China: Introducing the EM90

Volvo has recently made an exciting announcement that has shocked the automotive industry. The renowned Swedish automaker is set to launch a luxury electric MPV in China called the EM90. Although only a single overhead image has been released so far, the full reveal is scheduled for November 12th, along with the availability for pre-orders.

The EM90 is expected to offer the ambience of a “Scandinavian living room on the move,” taking inspiration from Volvo’s new EX30 and EX90 SUVs. These vehicles feature minimalist yet luxurious interiors, abundant in materials and technology, while prioritizing space, comfort, and connectivity.

While Volvo has not provided specific details about the EM90, they have hinted at its purpose. According to the company, the EM90 is not just a means of transportation from point A to point B; it is a space that creates room for your life. Imagine a moving sanctuary where you can connect with loved ones, work, relax, or simply be yourself.

Although not officially confirmed, it is widely speculated that the EM90 will share similarities with Zeekr’s new 009, a luxury six-seat MPV with impressive performance capabilities and striking design. The 009 is built on the same Geely Group SEA platform as Volvo’s EX30, as well as other Chinese-market EVs from Geely-owned brands. It is likely that the EM90 will follow suit.

While it remains to be seen if the EM90 will match the 009’s performance figures, the 009 boasts a range of 511 miles from its 140kWh battery and accelerates from 0-62mph in just 4.5 seconds. These impressive specifications are achieved despite the vehicle’s substantial weight of nearly three tonnes.

Interestingly, the 009 was designed in Volvo’s hometown of Gothenburg, Sweden, at Geely’s new global design center under the guidance of former Bentley design boss Stefan Sielaff. However, it is yet to be confirmed if the EM90 was developed in parallel with the 009.

The EM90 will mark a significant milestone for Volvo as it will be the brand’s first MPV and the first non-SUV model since the introduction of the latest-generation S60 saloon in 2019. Volvo made headlines in the UK recently when it decided to discontinue all saloon and estate cars due to the high demand for its crossovers and SUVs. As a result, it is unlikely that the EM90 will be available in the UK market.

In conclusion, Volvo’s announcement of the EM90 has generated excitement and anticipation within the automotive industry. This luxury electric MPV is expected to offer a unique and luxurious experience, resembling a Scandinavian living room on wheels. While details are limited at this stage, the EM90 is likely to share similarities with Zeekr’s 009, featuring impressive performance capabilities and eye-catching design. The EM90 will not only mark Volvo’s entry into the MPV segment but also showcase their commitment to innovation and sustainability in the electric vehicle market.
