Volvo refunds owners for EX30 software issues

Volvo EX30 Software Issues Lead to Cars Being Taken Off Sale

The Volvo EX30 has been temporarily removed from sale as the Swedish automaker addresses serious software issues that have caused some owners to return their vehicles.

Common Problems Reported by Owners

Owners have reported a range of issues, including screens going black, steering-wheel buttons not responding, cars not charging, and emergency braking systems activating unexpectedly.

Customer Complaints

Customers have shared stories and images online of malfunctioning infotainment touchscreens, incorrect information displayed, profiles reverting to factory settings, and driver aids failing. Some owners have returned their cars to Volvo for full refunds due to the severity of the issues.

Volvo’s Response

In response to the software problems, a Volvo spokesperson stated, “We recognize that this is not what customers expect from their Volvo car, and we are working to remedy this as swiftly as possible with minimal inconvenience.”

Software-Dependent Features

The Volvo EX30 heavily relies on its software for key functions such as headlights, wing mirrors, and climate control, all accessed through the central touchscreen. Physical controls are limited to window switches, door locks, and hazard warning buttons.

Future Updates

The EX30 has been temporarily removed from the online configurator in preparation for a 2025-model-year update scheduled for July 8th. Volvo has confirmed that any changes for MY2025 will be minimal and can be applied over the air.

Previous Software Challenges

Before its release in February, Volvo delayed the EX30’s launch to perform crucial software updates. The company stated that no major changes would be made until receiving feedback from customers.
