Volvo EX90 Electric SUV Production Begins in the US After Software Issues

Introduction

After a delay due to software bugs, Volvo has finally started production of the all-electric Volvo EX90 at its factory in Charleston, South Carolina. The luxurious seven-seat SUV is set to hit the market soon.

Production Delay

The Swedish carmaker faced delays in launching the EX90 last year due to software issues. However, with those problems resolved, production has now commenced, and the first deliveries are expected in the second half of this year.

First Deliveries

The very first EX90, painted in Denim Blue, will be delivered to a customer in the US this year. Volvo’s Charleston factory, which also produces the S60 sedan, has the capacity to manufacture up to 150,000 cars annually. To accommodate EX90 production, Volvo added a battery pack production line.

Model Range and Pricing

The pricing for the EX90 in the US starts at $76,695 for the entry-level Twin Motor model. This variant comes in different configurations like Plus 7 Seat, Plus 6 Seat, Ultra 7 Seat, and Ultra 6 Seat. Powered by two electric motors with 402 hp and 568 lb-ft (769 Nm) from a large 111 kWh battery pack, the Twin Motor versions can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 5.7 seconds and travel up to 300 miles on a single charge.

Above the standard Twin Motor model is the Twin Motor Performance version, featuring upgraded electric motors delivering 496 hp and 671 lb-ft (909 Nm). With a similar 111 kWh battery pack, this variant can reach 60 mph in 4.7 seconds and offers a range of around 300 miles. Prices for the Twin Motor Performance start at $81,695 and go up to $86,545.
